Happy Birthday Walter!!!
PUG PUPPY BEGINNINGS
For those of you who don’t know, I am the proud owner of a baby black pug named Walter. We’ve had our ups and downs like any mother/puppy relationship does, but he is one of the highlights of my life and I love the little guy to no end!
We adopted Walter just before last Christmas, but he was actually born in September. Knowing this information, we couldnt NOT give him a birthday party right?!? So we invited Walter’s very best friends Nikki the pitbull/lab and Tucker the lab/blue heeler over for cake and presents (THANK YOU NIKKI AND TUCKER! Walter has been so excited he doesn’t know what toy to play with first). And Yes, you heard that right…I baked a cake for my pug. No laughing allowed here – you’d want me to bake one for you too 😉
PUPPY CAKE? YES PLEASE
My puggy birthday cake mostly followed this recipe. However, since Walter is almost never greedy and wanted to share his cake with his two puppy friends, I doubled the recipe and left out the carrots. If I don’t have to like them or eat them then why does he? 😉. I frosted my lovely cake with plain yogurt and divided it up for the puppies to maul. We took them outside for this portion to prevent the disastrous mess that would no doubt ensue. Sadly I got so caught up in the fun of it all (and covered in cake and yogurt) that I was unable to snag a picture of the final product before it was devoured by all three dogs…but I will say it was QUITE a pretty cake. If you have a puppy…you should definitely give this one a shot!
WHAT ABOUT US HUMANS?
For our friends and fellow puppy owners, I made a huge pot of delicious vegetarian chili (you meat lovers out there will love it I SWEAR), and some mostly made from scratch cinnamon rolls. Our guests provided us with some pizza and drinks! We basically spent the evening watching our dogs play with their new toys, watched football, and goofed around – see..puppy parties aren’t crazy…they are an EXCELLENT excuse to make food and hang out with your favorite people ;). Below is my favorite easy veggie chili recipe given to me by my mother, my cinnamon roll recipe, and some pictures of our little party! Enjoy!
***you can always add ground beef to this, but the vegetarian version is delicious and tradition for my family during fall and football season!
1 can Pinto Beans
1 can Kidney Beans (dark or light red…I think the dark makes it prettier)
2 cans Diced Tomatos
1 can hot rotel tomatoes
1 red onion (you can use half – my mom usually does – but I LOVE onion so I like to use a small whole red one)
1 packet of chili seasoning (I used publix brand this time and it was AMAZING – and cheaper haha-!)
Throw all of this in a pot on medium heat…the longer you let it soak and heat the better the flavors mix! Just make sure to stir it regularly so the bottom doesn’t burn, and serve hot! Its best with saltines and sharp cheddar cheese sprinkled on top!
Katie and her husband make their own dough as the recipe says, but since I’m usually short on time, I haven’t attempted this yet. I’ve been using Walmart’s Marketplace Pizza brand Pizza Dough for 88 cents and it works great! I don’t typically shop at Walmart but I swear I use this dough for everything and its so convenient. I’ll be trying Katie’s dough recipe soon and hopefully that will replace my weekly Walmart trips!
Pictures of the Pug!
These are all just random iphone snapshots of Walter’s party from my phone and the phones of our guests. No judging here, we were having way to much fun to bust out any portfolio shots ;). These are just pieces of every day life! Enjoy!
